It was director Priyadarshan who introduced Jyotika to the film industry through his Hindi movie Doli Sajake Rakhna in which she paired opposite to Akshay Khanna.
Jyothika is a big fan of A R Rahman's music and believes in God and her self-confidence. Though her father has been a producer in the film industry of over twenty years and her sister a successful actress, she says that it was only through her own credentials that she got her roles. However, she gives credit to her mother and sister for giving moral support and guidance through her life.
She dreams of making her sister feel proud to proclaim that she is Jyothika's sister.
And she hopes to succeed in all the aspects of her life.
Jyothikas Entry to Film Field
Jyothika had her debut in a Hindi movie titled Doli Saja Ke Rekhna opposite to Akshay Khanna and directed by Priyadarsan in 1998. The film was not a big success at the box office. Biography:
Nagma was born on the Christmas day of 1969. Her original name is Namrata Sadhana and she was rechristened to Nagma before making her debut. Nagma’s debut movie was ‘Baagi’ opposite Superstar Salman Khan and she did manage to make her mark with her outstanding performance in a role of a prostitute. Nagma created waves when she did the bold swim suit act in Feroz Khan’s ‘Yalgaar’. Nagma’s last biggie as an actress as a lead was Rakesh Roshan’s ‘King Uncle’ in which she was paired opposite Superstar Shahrukh Khan. The actress also did an item number with Big B in ‘Lal Badshah’ that got very popular.
The actress stopped getting offers as she gained weight and couldn’t manage to shed those extra pounds. Nagma did ‘Kadhlan’ a movie in South India opposite the dancing king Prabhudeva and it went on to become a Superhit; the movie also became Nagma’s entry ticket to the South Film Industry where she went on to become a Superstar.
Nagma also started dating ex-skipper Sourav Ganguly and her alleged affair with the cricket star lead to a lot of controversy in India. Nagma was also alleged of getting married to him in a private ceremony however; Sourav succumbed to public pressure and ended his relationship with Nagma. This left Nagma distressed and depressed.
The actress got solace in ‘Art of Living’ and has been a part of the cult for many years now and also promotes it worldwide. After Bollywood and Tollywood, the actress has now started doing Bhojpuri movies and has gone to become one of the biggest actresses of this regional movie industry as well.
Family:
Nagma's biological father was Sri Arvind Pratapsinh Morarji, the late textile magnate. Her mother is Seema Sadhana, who married Morarji in 1972, separating only "a few years later," as The Telegraph reported in 2006 when Nagma made the information public.. According to Nagma's passport, the name given to her at birth was Nandita, and it is by that name that she was referred to in an obituary printed by the family when her father, Arvind Morarji, died. Nagma thus had a Hindu father and a Muslim mother. After divorcing Morarji "due to some family problems," Nagma's mother later married Chander Sadhana, a film producer, with whom she had two other daughters, Jyothika (herself a major Kollywood star) and Radhika, as well as a son, Suraj. Through her biological father, who later re-married, Nagma has two more half-brothers, Dhanraj and Yuvraj..
Nagma remained close to her biological father up until his death on 1 January 2006. She explained to one Mumbai reporter that: "I am proud of the fact that I belong to the respectable Dharamsinh Morarji family. My mother was legally married to Arvind Morarji at a public function at Radio Club at Colaba." It was Nagma's mother who encouraged her to become an actress, and is said to have been her "constant companion on film sets" for several years. In the spirit of her father's background in textiles, Nagma herself now has a clothing boutique on Mumbai's Hill Road called Nagma's, which was inaugurated in September 2003 by Akshay Kumar.
Nagma has led a very different life from her half-sister Jyothika, who was not successful as a star in Bollywood but who found major success in Tamil movies. Unlike Nagma, Jyothika's public image is free of controversies. Jyothika married Tamil heartthrob Surya Sivakumar in September 2006. Nagma herself, while romantically linked to a number of men, is single. She told Mid-Day in 2006 that "I am not hell-bent on getting married. ... Unless you are dead sure about your guy, you shouldn't get married. ... Marriage is an institution I would like to get into, but only if I find the perfect man."
