K RAGHAVENDRA RAO

Darsakendra K. Raghavendra Rao (born May 23, 1942) is a renowned Telugu film director. He is one of the most commercially successful directors of Telugu Cinema, and many believe that his contribution to Telugu Cinema has been instrumental to the success of Tollywood.

As of 2006, Raghavendra Rao has directed 103 films. His most recent Sri Ramadasu was a major success, not only in India, but USA and UK, and for the Telugus living abroad.

Career
He entered the film industry in 1975 by directing 'Babu', starring Sobhan Babu, a major box office success. He has been instrumental in elevating many actors' career, image, and box-office potential. He also showed his prowess in Hindi by directing box-office hits like Himmatwala and Tofah.

There is a misconception among the audiences that he is just a commercial director. He also made feminine oriented films like Jyoti, Aame Katha and Kalpana and inspirational films such as Trishulam and Annamayya.

His film 'Pelli Sandadi' has become one of the biggest musical hits of Telugu cinema. He also won the best choreographer Nandi award for his dance direction in that film. Rao is responsible for boosting the careers of actresses such as Sridevi, Vijaya Santhi, Radha, Ramya Krishna and Ravali.
