Story
A messed up treat, the story is set on the backdrop of a building under construction and the workers who are living more like a family get a new member. The person's name is Malli who is quiet and does not talk to anyone. The truth is, Malli is not a boy as everyone thinks but it is Malleswari (Bhumika) who is there in a disguise. Her real identity is not discovered and meanwhile, she replaces Koti (Muralikrishna) who is the caterer for the workers. He develops a grudge against Malli and wants to teach a lesson. But due to a chance incident, he gets to see that Malli is actually a woman and from then on he starts liking her. However, Malli is actually on the run and she is trying to escape from the police and a group of rough necks. Later, there is a flashback that leads to the notion that she is actually a terrorist and given the fact that she is from Bangladesh, the suspicions are more. Finally, Malli is cornered and before she is taken, she gets kidnapped. Koti sets out in the search of Malli and finds her locked up in a brothel. In this process, he is helped at every instant by his childhood friend Suri (Samudra) and together they plan to get Malli out of the whore house and want to put an end to the baddies. Are they successful in their attempts? Is Koti able to express his love to Malli? What happens after that forms the rest of the story...
Presentation
The director had come up with a good thought but then he fared miserably in the execution of it. The presentation was poor and the narration was totally disoriented. The pace of the movie was very dull and the dialogues were disastrous. The script was written shoddily and the screenplay was nowhere near average. Even the music was not upto the mark and it had only three songs to offer that were good, the camera was just about okay with nothing special to it. Editing was weak, locations were normal. Bhumika came out with an okay performance and her role had only presence but not much scope to deliver. Muralikrishna was alright as the hero but he still needs to work on his body language and facial movements. Item song by Farzana was not necessary, Venu Madhav's comedy track did not have anything special to offer. Telangana Sakunthala, Sameer, Kovai Sarala were up with standard performances and there is nothing special in it. The
Analysis
It's stunning to see Samudra as second hero in this film. He appears to be taking the path of Kodi Rama Krishna who used to play 'so-called' key roles in his films earlier.
Looking at the quality of the film, a doubt strikes every one that how big names like Bhumika and Ilayaraja agreed to work for this film. The story might have sounded good for them in the first narration of Samdura but once he brought it on to celluloid dish turned perishable. Indeed, Mallepuvvu lost its fragrance. Samudra made many blunders in his direction and a feel of compromise and lack of seriousness is seen in him. Lip-sink and dialogues are also not well tackled although it is a direct movie in Telugu.
First 30 minutes test the patience of audience with slow narration and weak dialogues. Only the four minutes before interval pumps in little interest and second half goes with some flesh in it. Even the second half that promised to do something failed to shine and there were the unwanted songs which really tested the patience of the audience. Commercially, there is not a single factor except that both hero and heroine are construction workers that will appeal those particular glasses. It is without doubt that the movie will sink in barely few days. Again the climax is spoiled with B-grade quality.
Notable blunders committed by the director
- The terrorists are shown like roadside goondas with small knives in climax fight
- Bhumika travels between Dhaka and Hyderabad in British Airways (!!)
- Bhumika is not illiterate but University Topper. No one knows why she maintains dumbness without letting out her problem to media and her parents on phone.

On a whole, the film proved to be a dud with no quality narration and sensibility. It lacked in the home work that is required while making a film with the subject-'terrorism'. Totally the film is Horrendous and there is no fragrance or nothing that impresses anyone who is going to watch it!!!!........

Farzana's Item Number In Bhumika's Mallepuvvu |

Chirpy beauty Farzana is going to do an item number for Bhumika’s “Mallepuvvu”. The sizzling beauty is shooting for the item song from today in Nanakramguda in Hyderabad. Samudra who is the director of this film has offered almost 12 lacs to Farzana to do the item song. Murali Krishna is the hero in this film and Illayaraja is the Music composer.
Bhumika, who is now a married woman, is the female lead of this film. Since Bhumika is now an aunty, the glam quotient in the film will be filled by Farzana’s item song. The film’s script is a women oriented subject and Bhumika will expose her acting skills to the full level in this film.

Mallepuvvu Audio Release Coverage |

Hotel Taj Deccan, Hyderabad, marked the venue for a fragrant, musical evening in the form of the audio launch event for the film Mallepuvvu. Produced under Sree Samudra Silver Screens banner by Sree Mohan Vadlapatla, the film directed by V. Samudra stars Bhumika as the female lead, while the male lead is a debutante Murali Krishna. Several showbiz personalities were seen at the occasion where the film's music director Music Maestro Sree Ilayaraja was the main attraction. Veteran lyricist Sree Veturi Sundararamamurthy penned all the eight songs in the album. Audio is marketed by Aditya Music.
Apart from the crew of the film and the lead pair, producers D. Suresh Babu, M.L. Kumar Chowdary, Dil Raju, Vakada Apparao, Raasi Movies' Narasimha Rao, Paras Jain, Ramanamurthy (of Thyagayya), directors Sagar, V.N. Aditya, Thammareddy Bharadwaja, N. Shankar, Harshavardhan, G. Ramprasad, Chandra Mahesh, artistes Nandamuri Taraka Ratna, Paruchuri Venkateswara Rao, Vallabhaneni Janardhan, Jayasudha, Roja Ramani, etc. were among the attendees. Financier Sunku Ramesh, B.A. Raju of Superhit magazine, and Aditya Music representative Umesh Gupta were also present. Jhansi presented the event with her impressive anchoring, requesting everyone on the dais to remember Late Sobhan Babu who starred in the yesteryear hit film Mallepuvvu. Jasmines showered Sobhan Babu's photograph at the dais as everyone paid their homage to the great artiste. Trailors and music teasers of the movie followed.
Speaking on this occasion, Paruchuri Venkateswara Rao revealed that nearly every director and hero that debuted through their movies became successful and quoted some examples of some of the attendees. Sree Thammareddy Bharadwaja complained cheerfully that Samudra took the title Mallepuvvu that was originally registered by him, and added that he's not sad about it since Samudra made a good movie. V.N. Aditya thanked Samudra for acting in his film Rainbow and commended the director's work for Mallepuvvu. Dil Raju and Paras Jain said that Ramesh Varma worked for all their movies as a publicity designer and commended his work for Mallepuvvu too. Suresh Babu recollected his experiences as a producer when he worked with Ilayaraja gaaru in the past, and commended that Ilayaraja was one of the finest technicians ever that he worked with! He said that whenever they had a recording at 7 a.m., Ilayaraja was always there by the time anyone else reached the location before 7 a.m. and the recording would also be completed very promptly.
Male lead Murali Krishna expressed his joy to have worked with the music magician in his debut film as a hero, and thanked Bhumika for being a cooperative and friendly co-star though she was much senior. Bhumika's was one of the finest speeches of the evening. Starting her speech in Telugu, she first invited people behind the successes of the artistes - cameraman Anil Bhandari, Deepa, and designer Swamy - onto the dais and thanked them, adding that those are the people that deserve applause for the way they project the artistes. She remembered her association with Smt. Jayasudha in her debut film Yuvakudu. Jayasudha spoke about her film career of 38 years, wherein she was in the classical dilemma - "To be or not to be" (in the filmdom) - for 35 years! She also recollected the memories of the yesteryear film Mallepuvvu that she acted with Late Sobhan Babu.
The highlight of the night was not just his presence and his music but also his speech - that's what the audience would have thought when Ilayaraja spoke. He was jovial all through, and spoke in Telugu completely. The modest creative artiste humbly elucidated, "You cannot make music. It should happen! ...I don't know music and that's why I am still trying to compose and let more music happen." While saying this, he also expressed his dislike towards some music directors (clearly mentioning that he is not taking any particular names and is talking generically) that claim they "did" this kind of music or that, or that they "did" innovative music! "What new musical note can anyone create?!", he wondered. He explained that Ramesh Varma approached him earlier for the latter's debut film and asked him to compose music for the film, but that he refused without any serious thought. Later again, Veturi gaaru called him, he said, and said that an youngster would come meet him to request his musical score, and that it was Ramesh Varma again, for Mallepuvvu.
He called up on Ramesh Varma and asked him to continue his side of that experience. Ramesh Varma said that after Ilayaraja gaaru agreed, he met the maestro and narrated the story and that they planned five songs in the film. However, Ilayaraja gaaru himself suggested more situations for songs, adding that they could make the album with eight songs instead of five. And, Ramesh Varma revealed that Ilayaraja had composed all the eight songs in just one hour!
