The sensational movie that shook the heads of many critics, film lovers on a whole ‘A Wednesday’ was brought into Telugu as ‘Eenadu’ today. Has it shaken the heads again? Let us go into the details.


Story:

Police Commissioner Eeshwar Prasad (Venkatesh) gets a threatening call from an anonymous caller (Kamal Hasan) who states that he planted 5 RDX explosives in city which would explode by 6PM. Terror starts from then. Eeshwar Prasad handles the issue by reporting to Chief Secretary (Lakshmi) and Chief Minister. His missions are two.

1. Safeguarding that city from blasts and
2. Smoking out the anonymous caller.

And why that caller threatens? His demands are to release 4 terrorists those are linked up to Gokul Chat and Lumbini blasts.

Eeshwar Prasad releases them and sends to the place suggested by that anonymous caller. What happens after that? Has Eshwar Prasad succeeded in his missions?

That has to be watched on screen.


Performances:

Venkatesh- He is the only saving grace in the movie. Audience found relaxed and pleasant watching him. He suited perfect to the role of Police Commissioner. He looked more convincing than Anupam Kher, who played same role in original ‘A Wednesday’. He never smiles through out the narration and his serious portrayal is laudable. He kept all sorts of star-hero image and airs aside and performed very subtly. That is highly commendable.
Kamal Hasan- He hasn’t shown the conviction that was shown by Naseeruddin Shah in original. There is no scope for performance in this role, but still Naseeruddin could show some glitters drawing the attention of audiences completely. But here the director spoiled the character by not suggesting anything about the timing in dialogue delivery and expressions to Kamal. Kamal is the biggest disappointment as audience expect more than what they have actually watched from him.
Ganesh Venkataraman: He is perfect in cop’s role. He is the one who stole the attention of audiences with his macho look as Cop Arif. He is far better than Jimmy Shergill who played same role in original.

Bharat Reddy: He played subtly as Cop Goutham Reddy with bits of humor in a couple of scenes.
Lakshmi is a waste. Technically, this is the first full length film in Telugu that’s made with Red-One digital camera. The output is good. Sruthi Hasan’s music could have been better. Dialogues are good. Editing is ok.

Analysis:
A few said that Kamal wouldn’t have chosen to work in this movie as his performance is not up to the mark. Some from back seats murmured, Prakash Raj would be a better choice than Kamal Hasan for this role.

Audiences find a kind of terror watching Naseeruddin Shah’s performance in ‘A Wednesday’. But Kamal couldn’t bring that. And Chakry Toleti is successful in copying the film from original but failed with some senseless additions.


Directorial Flaws:

* Kamal Hasan talking about a pregnant woman getting raped nude in public, while dealing with terrorists, on phone with Police Commissioner is out of the box. That has confused audiences.
* And there is no reasonable conclusion to Poonam Kour’s role. Has she got down from train? The circle hasn’t completed.
* Showing Lakshmi in the role of Chief Secretary in not in tune with requirement (although director tried to depict the ego clashes between IAS and IPS officers in general)

The movie lacks luster with respect to boosting up the adrenaline of audience. The best part is that the movie has got no extra-peripherals like songs and hence saved time and energies of audience. First half has picked up slowly and caused some stir before interval. The intensity in second half could be better to fit into the requirement.

Mass audiences may not relish this film. Majority of multiplex audiences already watched ‘A Wednesday’ and comparison mars it. Rural audiences may feel it a documentary sort of film and finds hard to understand what is happening on screen. Hence it’s difficult for this film to continue its odyssey at box office. This is an unexpected outcome.

Bottom Line: Whatever copied is not bad. And what ever added is not good

Eenadu, remake of the hit Hindi film A Wednesday, is to be released on September 18. The bilingual (the release date of the Tamil version Unnaipol Oruvan is awaited) jointly produced by Kamal Haasan and Ronnie Screwvala is seen as a potential hit long before its release.

In a shrewd marketing strategy, G. Kumar Babu, who has taken the distribution rights for Telugu, deferred the release from the scheduled date of August 14 to avoid a clash with Vikram's Mallanna.

Eenadu, directed by Chakri, has Kamal Haasan and Venkatesh enacting the roles of Naseeruddin Shah and Anupam Kher in the original.

In the Tamil version, Venkatesh is replaced by Mohanlal.

Marmayogi has Trisha, Shreya, Hema malini, Spray Makeup and Victory

Kamal Haasan's Magnum opus 'Marma Yogi' is scouting for the cast and crew for the film which has slowly started rolling. The days of stardom is fading away and times of incongruity is happening these days.

Popular star Venkatesh is being cast alongside Kamal Haasan in a very prominent role in the movie. Although surprising, this news bolsters to provoke a healthy scenario for the film industry and to elevate the market nationally.

'Marmayogi' is being made in three languages, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.

Buzz is that Venky was approached by Kamal to play a key role in the flick. He narrated the theme of the story & the character to which he is allotted. According to reports, the same role will be played by Amitabh Bachchan in the Hindi version of the film. The film also involves the crazy bollywood woman "Hema Malini".

Vekantesh has been looking out for a multi starrer with the apt script which has become fruitful with this endeavor. This will be his first tri-lingual film. Earlier his films were dubbed from Telugu to Tamil and he had worked also in Hindi.

Trisha and Shriya are acting in the movie which is a period flick. Recently the photo shoot of Kamal Hassan's magnum opus Marmayogi took place at AVM studio in Chennai. Trisha, Shriya and Hema Malini are reported to have taken part in the shoot along with Kamal.

The shoot took place under heavy security cover, and no mobiles were allowed inside the studio floor. Only people involved in the photo shoot was allowed inside and that too after frisking.

According to sources, Kamal is using the Red Camera for the film and a foreign cameraman is likely to shoot the film. There were two make-up people, a guy and a girl who had assisted in Hollywood films for the photo shoot. For the first time ever in Indian cinema, Spray makeup is being used for the artists in Marmayogi.

Spray make-up is the latest craze in Hollywood films. According to reports compiled from the net- "It is suited to all skin types, especially for Asian artists or anyone with sun damage because it forms a smooth later that doesn't sit in wrinkles. It suits acne skin because it's a clean delivery with no potential for cross-contamination. And it's also great for sensitive and post-surgery skins, because there's no pulling or rubbing of skin involved".

Our sources say Trisha was transformed into a glowing beauty after she used the magic Spray make up. The finished effect is very close to an airbrushed effect and is used for many photo shoots, though it is said to be very expensive.

Meanwhile reports have also come in that Trisha is learning to speak in pure 'sentamizh' way the Tamil language. It seems she has a Tamil teacher to teach her diction and accent as Tamil was spoken many centuries back.

Kamal is insisting that she not only dubs for the film but her pronunciation should be correct. The costumes and jewellery in the film is designed by Gowthami.

A big Time For Trsiha

Trisha is reported to have bagged a role in Kamal Haasan's next film Marmayogi, to be produced by the legend himself, in association with Pyramid Saimira. Expected to be the costliest ever movie in South, it is being planned with a 125 crore budget. Kamal Haasan himself will be directing this film. He had earlier directed films like Hey Raam and Virumandi.

Right now this reigning queen of South Indian filmdom is doing King, opposite Nagarjuna in which she plays the role of a singer. She was all set to do two more flicks; one opposite Venkatesh in Krishnam Vande Jagadgurum to be directed by Krish and the other, Ravi Teja’s next film to be directed by Surendar Reddy. But now, it seems she has backed out of these two plum projects. Why? Because she had to give bulk dates of around 200 days for Kamal’s dream project, meaning she will have no time for any other project. As a result, her presence in Telugu films will be quite low in the near future.

Though she was upset that she had to decline the Telugu movie offers, the role in Marmayogi will be the role of a lifetime for this petite dream queen of Kollywood. Chennaiyil Oru Mazhaikalam, Abhiyum Naanum and Sarvam are the three Tamil movies on hand that Trisha has to wrap up before starting Marmayogi.

Trisha’s dream of working with Kamal Haasan, her favourite actor, has come true.

It seems Trisha loves singing and sings very well too, but is extremely shy about performing in front of an audience. She is a great fan of A.R. Rahman. Sources said that Trisha is going to sing for A.R. Rehman.

100 CRORES IN 3 WEEKS - DASAVATHAARAM COLLECTIONS

Dasavatharam has grossed US $14,683,762 at the end of the third week after it hit the silver screens worldwide. However, the amount does not include the collections made in North America and from certain parts of India.

After learning more about the Butterfly Effect and Chaos Theory weaved into the storyline, the audience seemed to have understood Dasavatharam better. In fact, people have been thronging the theatres to watch the film yet again after learning about these theories. It is inferred that if the present trend continues, Dasavatharam could easily be on its way to becoming one of the highest grossing South Indian movies around the globe.

In Chennai city alone (not including the suburbs) it has grossed about Rs. 6.5 crores. With the collection details for the fourth week expected soon, the trade analysts have estimated the world wide collections to go beyond Rs. 100 crores in less than three weeks time!

SHRIYA IN MARMAYOGI?

After co-starring superstar Rajinikanth in Sivaji, Shriya will be seen with actor Kamal Haasan in his upcoming period film Marmayogi. Insiders reveal that the actress, who has only one film - Kandaswamy in hand, is trying hard to get into Kamal’s camp.

Since the story is set in seventh century and is about war between two dynasties, Kamal plans to shoot the war sequences in Switzerland to maintain secrecy. The film will have lot of graphics especially for the war scenes and numerous Hollywood technicians will be a part of this big budget project.

ASIN ON VOGUE'S "10"TH EDITION

South Indian actress Asin is making waves even before her Bollywood debut, she's on the cover of the10th issue of Vogue magazine.

The actress is all set to make her debut in Aamir Khan's Ghajini and even bagged a meaty role in Kamal Haasan's Dasavathaaram which is one of the biggest movies this year.

The hot and happening actress has achieved all this at the young age of 22.

"Oh it's absolutely fantastic, I feel on top of the world. To be on the cover of the 10th issue of Vogue, even before my first national film and the first anniversary of Vogue, it's simply great," says Asin.

Editor Vogue Priya Tanna says, Asin was the unanimous choice for the cover.

"We look to feature upcoming international talent on Vogue. Asin was the unanimous choice for the cover. She has this very unique ethereal Indian beauty and she could carry herself off very well in different brands," explains Priya.

Though Dasavathaaram is getting a mixed response from both critics and at the box-office, for the actress it was a dream come true to work with Kamal Haasan.

"The reviews have been fantastic and I'm very satisfied with the reviews, but what was more satisfying, was the opportunity to act with Kamal sir," she says.

And as expected Asin is tight-lipped about her Bollywood debut film Ghajini with Aamir Khan.

"I can't reveal anything much at this point in time. It will be better when the movie comes out and you all see it," says Asin.

So we'll have to wait and watch how the actress' debut film clicks at the box-office and if she's able to make her mark in Bollywood.

DELETED SCENES AND INTERVIEWS IN DVDS

Sony has acquired the DVD rights of the film Dasavatharam. Earlier the audio rights were also bagged by Sony. The DVD of the Dasavatharam will be released in Tamil, Hindi and Telugu throughout India by end of next month.

The DVDs and VCDs will be available at stores.The movie stars actor Kamal Hassan in 10 roles, including that of US President George W. Bush, a wrestler and a scientist. Mallika Sherawat, Asin, Jayapradha and Vasu are also part of the cast. The story of the movie, directed by K.S. Ravikumar and produced by Venu ‘Aascar’ Ravichandran, has been penned by Hassan himself. The music of Dasavatharam has been scored by Bollywood composer Himesh Reshammiya.

The most exciting part of this DVD is that it will have all exclusive interviews of star casts and crew members of this film. Also will carry half an hour of deleted scenes in the film.

DASAVATHAARAM BEATS SARKAR RAJ IN UK

The performance of Dasavatharam is very impressive not only in the domestic market but also in the overseas segment.

1.As per the Malaysian Box office collections report for the period June 12 to 15, the films stands in second position having grossed $601,307, being screened at 58 theatres. At the first position is ‘The Incredible Hulk’.



2.In the United Kingdom, where generally Bollywood films rule the roost, Dasavatharam stands at 11th position having piped Ram Gopal Verma’s Sarkar Raj to 16th place in the period June13th to June 15th. The film has grossed $ 246,677. Though the film is being screened at a few theatres, it is reported to be doing well in terms of percentage collections.

Story:

A one stop shop, the movie begins on a flashback mode when all of us are taken to the twelfth century when there were only two sects - Vaishnavites and Shaivaites fighting against each other and the dominance of the Vishnu devotees is challenged when the local king of Chidambaram Kulathunga Chozhan (Napoleon) puts his iron foot down and is on a spree to put an end to the presence of Lord Vishnu and replace it with Lord Shiva. However, his power is challenged when Rangaraja Nambi (Kamal) opposes the decree and despite his friendship with the king, he is tied to the idol and is drowned in the sea along with the idol of the Perumal. All this is watched by his wife (Asin) whose pleas fall on deaf ears and even she gives up her life. The story takes turns and reaches the present modern day and goes all the way to America where the protagonist Govind (Kamal) happens to be a scientist and is a key part to the crucial bio synthetic vial that is being devised. Due to a freak accident, the vial's danger is realized by Govind and much to his horror, he knows that this is being sold by his superior Dr Sethu to some unwanted elements. Govind takes it upon himself to ensure that the vial is kept away from wrong hands and he is chased by the professional killer Fletcher (Kamal) hired by the company. The vial reaches to India through coincidence and Govind reaches in search of that, he is being followed by Fletcher who comes to India with the assistance of Jasmine (Mallika Sherawat). Govind meets the Tamil cop Nadar (Kamal) and through a tale of events, he becomes the wanted criminal. In his search for the vial, he goes to Chidambaram and comes across Lakshmi (Asin) along with her granny (Kamal) who hails from an orthodox Brahmin family and there he discovers that the vial is inside the idol of Lord Perumal. He is being followed by Fletcher even to Chidambaram and finally in his efforts to retrieve the vial, Lakshmi is with him and both of them come across many characters like the famous Punjabi singer Avtar Singh (Kamal) and his wife Ranjeetha (Jaya Prada), the tall man Khalifullah (Kamal) and his family, the social leader Punyakoti (Kamal) who is against the land mafia, meanwhile there is also the president of America (Kamal) who is taking keen interest on this case. Then there is the Japanese martial arts sensei who comes to India to avenge the death of his sister since she happens to be a friend of Govind and gets killed by Fletcher in a skirmish to save the vial. What happens in the end? Does Govind get to the vial? Can he save the world from an end? All this forms the rest of the story.
Presentation:

The director has come up with a simple story line but then a lot has gone into the narration and the presentation of the plot. He has been well supported by good visuals, some crisp editing and a fairly good background score. The script looked like a cocktail thanks to the number of characters that had to be justified but then the arrangement of them and connecting the dots was well placed. The screenplay could have been a lot better during the initial stages of the film. Fight choreography and stunts were sub standard considering the budget and grandeur of the film. Asin looked perfect as the Brahmin girl and her innocence and simple mindedness was worth her performance, Mallika Sherawat added enough spice with her looks and song though her role was limited, Napoleon looked grand like the king, the others did their job with the required standards. The heart and soul of the movie was as expected Kamal Hassan in his ten different roles. He has put his everything to do justice to each and every character he did and has enacted the roles very well. The appearance of the ten roles was distinct and it was only the sheer talent and power of Kamal that could have carried out so many roles with elegance. He has yet again proved that he is a man beyond comparison when it comes to creativity and acting. The tsunami scene was taken really well and it looked like the Indian cinema met the Hollywood standards in some aspects while watching the clips.

Conclusion:

The film which has been received with great hype and grandeur initially is a bit confusing with so many characters filling the screen with disturbing visuals and random scenes happening. Though the initial twenty minutes was unsettling, the film gradually falls in line and the audience start putting 2 and 2 together. The second half got a bit slow at some instants but then it picked up and the penultimate minutes of the film were worth a watch. The makers were trying to justify each and every character of Kamal which kind of made things difficult and more focus was given on the appearance and make up of the protagonist which kind of weakened the story line. One really wonders having spent so much money on the venture, why they could not spend few extra bucks to come up with some breathtaking fight sequences and stunts. The film has to be appreciated for the Herculean efforts that were put in the making and it could have been a sure shot blockbuster had they focused on small issues like the action sequences and other technical aspects.
