Director Shankar, Rajnikanth , Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, cinematographer Ratnavelu and a crew comprising of 40 people left for the US last Friday to shoot for the magnum opus Yanthram (Enthiram) (formerly titled Robot).

The crew is scheduled to start shooting two songs composed by A R Rahman in undisclosed "beautiful locations in America" on September 8.

The last time Shankar and Rajnikanth came together was in Sivaji and it was Rahman who composed the songs for the same.

Producers Ayngaran International Films Pvt Ltd and Eros International have also released the schedule for Enthiram.

The crew details list R Ratnavelu as cameraman, Sabu Cyril as art director, editing by Antony, choreography by Raju Sundaram and costume design by Manish Malhotra. Mary E Vogt, the costume designer of Men in Black, Batman returns and Inspector Gadget is designing the futuristic outfits.

Stan Winston Studio (USA) who has worked in Hollywood biggies such as Predator, Jurassic Park, Pearl Harbor, Iron man, Terminator and I-Robot will do the animatronics while Yuen Woo Ping (of Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Matrix and Kill Bill fame) is in charge of the stunts.

Handling the visual effects (VFX) are Hollywood companies like ILM, Tippet, Cafe EFX as well as Hong Kong companies like Centro and Menfond.

RAJINIKANTH AS YOUNG SCIENTIST IN SHANKAR'S ROBOT

Rajinikanth and director Shankar have been very busy over the past few weeks with the groundwork for Robot set rolling. The duo have completed about three photo sessions thus far – one in Mumbai and two in Chennai.

It seems that Shankar is quite satisfied with the outcome but the final decision on Rajini's get-up in Robot is yet to be decided.

Meanwhile, Rajini and Shankar will fly down to Mumbai in a few days time for the fourth photo session. Interestingly, this photo shoot session will have Aishwarya Rai also participating in it. Sources say that Shankar is taking extra care about Rajini's looks in Robot as his role happens to be that of a young scientist.

PRIYAMANI SHARES SCREEN WITH AISHWARYA IN TWO FILMS

Currently Priyamani is ruling the roost with the nation-wide recognition after winning the national award for the best actress category, for her fabulous performance in the Tamil film 'Paruthiveeran'. She has now grabbed the opportunity to be the part of Maniratnam's latest venture that is to be made both in Hindi and Tamil simultaneously. While Abhishek plays the lead man in Hindi and Vikram in Tamil and Aishwarya Rai plays the female lead in both the versions. Priyamani enacts the role of second heroine pairing with Prithviraj, who is said to be playing the negative shade. This project will commence in September. AR Rahman will compose music and PC Sriram for the cinematography.

Out of the blue, Priyamani gets a telegram from director Shankar. The telegram congratulates her for winning the National award for best actress for Paruthiveeran, and praises her performance in it. Now comes the interesting part - at the end of the mail - Shankar signs off suggesting they should meet.

Industry insiders are reading this as an offer to play an important character in Robot.

JD IS PLAYING A VILLANY IN ROBO

JD Chakravarthy who is directing a film Homam with Jagapthi has signed prestigious film of director Shankar . Ayagaran films is making this prestigious ROBORs100 crores movie with Rajini Kanth in the lead role.

Rajini Kanth liked JD’s work and recommended him for the key villain role in ROBO to Shankar.

Shankar casted Suman as Villain for Sivaji and now it is the time for JD Chakravarhty. It must be a big offer for JD.

NAYANATARA & DEEPIKA PADUKONE IN ROBOT

After Superstar Rajini officially signed for Robot, media has started the next thread, who will be the heroine or heroines of Rajini in Robot? Now the race for becoming Superstar Rajini's heroine in his next two projects has been gearing up in Tamil film industry. Every actress is getting ready to take part in this race to become the prestigious role of Superstar's lady love.

According to Sujatha's original script, En Iniya Iyanthira and Meendum Jeeno (A sequel of En Iniya Iyanthira) there is only one heroine, Nila (name of the character). But for Robot, it is said that Sujatha accepted to create another female lead character. In original script, the character of a Robot Dog is almost getting the equal importance of the hero. It will also be modified by the writer. The discussion has already completed, now there are few alteration done by the writer as suitable to Rajini.

According to the buzz, Nayantara and Deepika Padukone are said to be the two heroines of the movie. While Nayantara, who played Superstar's pair in Chandramukhi, is tipped to become his pair again, it is rumored that the latest Bollywood sensation Deepika Padukone will do an important role. But nobody is ready to confirm the role of Deepika in Robot. The production house told that the cast and crew will be decided by Shankar and Rajini only.
If sources are to be believed, Ash will not do the film and Shankar is already in talks with Deepika Padukone for the role.

Shankar plans to shoot Robot over two years. Ash called him to ask for specific dates, saying there’s no way she can commit herself to a film over two years. When asked whether she was still part of Robot, Aishwarya’s secretary Hari Singh said, “Send an SMS to Aishwarya and you will get a reply.” However, despite us sending her several messages, Ash did not reply.

Aishwarya, we hear, has instead already asked Rohan Sippy to start his film Happy Birthday which stars John Abraham besides her. The source added, “This suggests that Aishwarya may not do Robot which was supposed to be her next film.” When asked about Rohan Sippy’s film being shelved, the source said, “No, the film is not shelved. However, it has taken a backseat as John is not free even though Ash is ready to start work on the film.”

When contacted Rohan’s father, Ramesh Sippy, confirmed that Raghvan’s film Happy Birthday has not been aborted and that they will start shooting in October. Reportedly, Aishwarya was promised Rs 4 crore for Robot which is slated to be a bilingual venture — both in Hindi and Tamil.
