RGV's Katha Screenplay Darsakathvam Appalaraju Launched - Photos, Videos and News

As it was reported earlier, the evergreen stunning beauty Sridevi and romantic hero Nagarjuna had launched Ram Gopal Varma’s forthcoming latest film ‘Katha Screenplay Darsakatvam Appalaraju’ that has comedian turned hero Sunil in the lead.

The film was formally launched today afternoon at Annapurna Studios in Hyderabad. The movie launch event was attended by actress Sridevi, Akkineni Nagarjuna, Sumanth, Rana, and many other Telugu film fraternities.

Sources say that after a long gap of 12 years, RGV is going to wield the megaphone straight for a Telugu film. There is also a buzz that for the first time in this movie, a song will be canned on Sunil using 27 cameras. The regular shooting of the film will commence from September 1st. The movie is produced by Kiran Kumar Koneru under Shreya Productions banner, which earlier produced filma such as ‘Siddham’ and ‘Homam’.

RGV termed it an emotional moment and recalled how he got interested in movies only because of Sridevi. Not forgetting Nagarjuna for giving him the break in the industry, he conveyed his gratitude to both of them for attending the launch of his Telugu film.

One song, a satire on the bigwigs in the highly competitive industry and about the myriad number of hopefuls wanting to get a break as a filmmaker, drew attention as it was played, even as Ramgopal Varma hoped that Telugu film directors took it sportingly, as constructive criticism.

He said the movie held intensely personal moments of his journey to success. It would showcase the travails of those who believed that they were the best and pooh-poohed the successful directors.

While music for the film is scored by Koti, Y. Sudhakar Reddy will work behind the camera. Nagarjuna recalled how he was initially nervous opposite Sridevi in ‘Aakhari Poratam' and how she made him feel at ease. He also said he was game to do a film with RGV again. Sridevi heaped praise on him calling him the greater co-star she worked with, in her career.

Colors Swathy has got good salable value after the film ‘Asta Chemma’ and that has carried expectations on the movie ‘Kalavaramaye Madilo’. And that is the only factor that hooked the audiences to look at this film. Let us see how far the expectations are reached.

Story:

Sreya (Swathy) lives with her mother (Delhi Rajeshwari) and works in an Audit Office. But she loves singing and hence gets into earning by joining as a stage singer in a Star Hotel. She also holds a dream of singing in the composition of AR Rehman.

Sastry (Tanikella Bharani) makes ways to find a concert for his friend who is a classical singer Rao (Vikram Gokhale). They happen to come to that Star Hotel in search of a chance at the same place and listen to Sreya’s performance. Rao shouts on her quoting the standards of music. Sreya takes that as a challenge and goes to the same Rao to learn music.

Srinu (Kamal Kamarj) a London returned guy happens to be the pair for Sreya.

What happens later and how Sreya fulfils her dreams form rest of the story.

Performances:

Colors Swathy:
She is the only pulling factor for this film. She did her best in justifying the role. Fun, humor and energy were given by her in first half. But the second half demanded pathos part in her and hence audiences get to see a new Swathy with tears.

Kamal Kamaraju:
It is good that he improved muscles and looking macho. At the same time he needs to improve a lot in the matters of action and dialogue delivery. His guitar scene is very eccentric and such hysterical scenes should be done only when they are necessary.

Vikram Gokhale:
He is very new to Telugu screen. Audiences can connect to him only when he can deliver all sorts of histrionics required for silver screen. But he didn’t. He underplayed a lot in that passive patient role leaving no sense for his presence in the movie. He is known as very good stage artiste in Maharashtra but he proved not the only choice for the role. And the dubbing voice of renowned SP Balasubrahmanyam given to him is another flaw.

Others:
Tanikella Bharani did his best. He recalls the role of Sarath Babu in Sagarasangamam for some time and that of Allu Ramalingiah in Sankarabharanam for other time.

Delhi Rajeshwari is ok in her role but appeared weaker than before.

Pragathi (hero’s mother) missed timing in delivering dialogues as well as expressions. This can be considered as one of her poor performances in recent time.

Technical Departments:

There is nothing great or less to mention about any technical department and everything went in run of the mill state. Dialogues are good and sensible to large extent but the problem arrived with screenplay. The wellness of dialogues got smoked by lengthy indoctrinating scenes where not required, especially in second half.

Music and Lyrics:

Sarath Vasudevan’s music is mediocre. He needs to improve in orchestration part. Vanamali’s lyrics are good especially in two numbers- ‘Tholi Asalenno’ and ‘Pallavinchina…’.

Analysis:

The religion of the director who happens to be the story writer of the movie seems to be ‘Vishwanathism’ as far as this film is concerned. To elaborate, the elements in the films Sagarasangamam, Sankarabharanam, Sruthi Layalu and Swarna Kamalam would role on minds’ screen while watching this film. And there is nothing wrong and such attempt deserves praises. But it’s not just the story that becomes a movie. Proper screenplay, scene conviction and free flow are required to hook the audiences. And moreover, such films need a right proportion of humor to balance the equation.

The attempt of director to bring pathos in climax is laudable but the blend missed the goal. The choice of artistes is not so impressive. And the director didn’t do any attempt to balance the equation of emotions those are being delivered in the movie.

First half goes little better with the humor and trademark style of Colors Swathy. But the second half mars the enthusiasm levels of audiences with heaviness in scenes and narration. Lack of timing while delivering dialogues and giving expressions hindered the free flow in narration.

Apart from this, the directors should know that there is huge talent within known sources and need not run for artistes like Vikram Gokhale.

On a whole it’s an old concoction attempted to serve with newness but couldn’t reach the expectation.

Attempt of director can be appreciated but pity on would-be box office result.

Bottom-line: Should be watched with ‘big heart’ to say ‘it’s good’

A hilarious treat, the story is about Lavanya (Swathi) a youthful and bubbly girl who only has one mission in life- to marry the star Mahesh Babu. Lavanya is madly in love with him and cannot think of anyone else however she is disappointed when she gets to know that Mahesh has been married to Namratha. Due to this, her aunt (Jhansi) several attempts to get Lavanya married to an NRI keep failing and after a lot of persuasion the pretty girl agrees. However, she puts in a condition that the name of the groom must be Mahesh which is yet another problem. Due to her obsession with Mahesh Babu, the music and songs she plays creates havoc in the neighbourhood and the worst affected is Anand (Sreenivas), the next door guy. In an effort to get rid of Lavanya, he goes in search of a person with the name Mahesh and finally chances upon a guy with the same name (Nani) who works in a pub. Sreeni hatches a plan and finally both of them fall in love, however things get interesting when it is known that Mahesh's actual name is Rambabu and on the other hand Sreenivas falls in love with Varalakshmi (Bhargavi), sister of Rambabu who hails from the village Lakkavaram. What happens after that forms the rest of the story.Presentation:
The director has come up with a simple treat but then he has excelled in presenting the plot very well and also the narration was quite interesting. The script was tight and the screenplay was executed very well with some good points to add fun. Dialogues were quite witty and though music was not always in sync, it suited the moods. Camera was effective with good angles. Nani has come up with a good performance given his debut effort and equally competent was Sreenivas in his first shot. However, they might not fit that well to the mainstream movies. Bhargavi had this domestic sex appeal in her but she needs to tone down her body, her performance was good. The real show stealer was Swathi whose dialogue delivery is worth every penny. She has learnt to be a camera friendly girl and this will take her far. Tanikella was not utilized completely and Jhansi was strong enough on the screen.
Conclusion:
The amount of creativity and wit used to make this seemingly plain story look interesting is worth appreciation. While the entire length of the movie revolves around one theme, it is the factor of 'Mahesh Babu' that really pulls the audience. However, care should have been taken to ensure that few things are not overdone as such instances have occurred here. The film will definitely appeal the multiplex and metro audience but there is not much for the mass except the 'Mahesh' syndrome. Commercially, it will rake in good money and will get a decent fare tag.
