Chiruta is a 2007 Telugu film produced by Ashwini Dutt and directed by Puri Jagannadh. The film marks the debut of Ram Charan Teja , son of the popular Telugu actor Chiranjeevi popularly known as MegaStar, in the lead role. Delhi-based model Neha Sharma plays the female lead. The film also features a soundtrack by Mani Sharma. Chiruta was released worldwide on September 28, 2007.

Plot summary

Charan Teja (Ram Charan Teja) is a juvenile convict who is released from prison after 12 years. In a flashback, his father(Surya), an auto driver is murdered by the gangster, Mattu Bhai (Asish Vidyarthi), who has also injured his mother who is in a critical condition.Charan goes to jail as someone offers him money if he goes to jail for someone else.Upon his release, Charan learns that his mother has died. While seeking revenge, Charan also falls in love with Sanjana (Neha Sharma), (Prakash Raj).

Charan gets a passport with the help of a police officer(Sayaje Shinde), and goes to Bangkok to join a travel agency. Sanjana and her friends arrive in Bangkok as tourists, and Charan is her guide. A young criminal,Biku, who happens to be Mattu Bhai's son, teases Sanjana and threatens her, until Charan attacks him and saves the girl. In another incident, Biku returns and tries to kidnap Sanjana.Charan saves her once again and in the process, they are then stranded on an uninhabited island, off the coast of Bangkok.

During their stay there, he confesses his love towards her and also reveals his secret mission to track down Mattu Bhai.He is now a notorious international criminal with network in Hong Kong, Bangkok, and elsewhere.

Meanwhile, the girl's father is desperate to undo the love between the two. In the climax, Charan discovers that his mother is still alive. The hero wins his girl, kills Mattu Bhai, and is united with his mother.

Box office

* The film released in 708 screens including 532 in Andhra Pradesh, 44 in Karnataka, 4 in Tamil Nadu, 3 in Orissa and 115 overseas. Chiruta collected a first day distributors' share of nearly Rs.4 million. In Chennai, it debuted at no. 1 and averaged 100% collections from 3 screens in its opening weekend. Its opening week share is around Rs.1 million films.

Finally Chirutha shares are out. Chirutha collected a whopping 18,00,07,514 Rupees(Eighteen crores seven thousand five hundred fourteen only) for one week across the globe. This is the highest first week share for any south indian movie in one regional language and Megastar Chiranjeevi’s STALIN stood second in the list of all time highest grossers. Except Krishna and Vizag area Chirutha created all time highest records for one week.
